The 2009 Outstanding School Board in Montana Awards were presented to Chester-Joplin-Inverness Public Schools District # 48 1-J & 2-J and to Frenchtown School District # 40 at the Montana Conference of Educational Leadership (MCEL) in Missoula last week with approximately 700 school administrators, school board members, and school business officials attending.
The award was presented by the Montana Association of School Superintendents (MASS) and is based on board policy, facilities/grounds, (learning and teaching environments), programs (educational, innovative, etc.), school board training (state & national), board and administrative collaborations, personnel (professional development), community involvement and other examples of board excellence.
The Chester-Joplin-Inverness School Board was commended for bringing two schools that became one and three communities that joined to support one school and yet maintain their own community identity. In their fifth year of consolidation, their original goals of maintaining and improving educational programs, holding the line on taxes and maintaining public trust have been achieved. The paramount goal of having the best educational program possible for the students has been maintained and even improved.
The nomination for the award also noted the tremendous contributions of the teachers and support staff in implementing the consolidation over the summer of 2005 so that the students and the new program would be on solid ground for the start of the 2005-2006 school year.
The nomination also complemented the many people that served on the different boards and committees during the study of consolidation and the final act of consolidation. The communities were also commended for working together to make the consolidation happen and to put aside their differences for the “greatest good for the greatest number”
Congratulations to the communities of Chester, Joplin, and Inverness for you are the ones that made this award a reality.
